About

We love good food and this beautiful place.

At the end of summer 2018, our family of five settled in to our new home on the farm. In this current season, we are taking care of our small herd of Dexter cattle, our laying hens, meat hens, pigs, community of barn cats, and farm dog. We also enjoy harvesting and preserving vegetables and fruit from the garden. We look forward to exploring new ideas for the continued development of our small farm.

Eating local has been a passion for us over the years and we are continuously exploring ways to grow produce and raise animals in a natural, healthy way. According to the season, we will be offering meat and other products to customers through our farm store. Some items are farm pick up only, but other items are eligible for delivery. Please contact us for details. We also occasionally host informal small events like workshops and house concerts. Tickets can be purchased through our online farm store.

Cedar Knoll Farm is a third generation family farm near Finch, Ontario. The farm was originally a dairy farm established by Ben’s grandparents in 1954. Grandma and Grandpa van Gilst immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands to buy a farm because, as Grandma told us, Grandpa was “a farmer in his heart”. The dairy farm continued with Ben’s mum and dad from the 80s onward, and, in addition to milking cows, they always kept an abundant garden, growing and preserving their own food.

We are so grateful to be living here now- a 100 acre portion of the original farm. This is a great honour for us and a dream come to fruition.
